Anabosis: Ibram
Anabosis is a science fiction novel set in the distant future of the Verdian Tales Universe. It focusses on the adventures and experiences of ethicist Emma Grant as she explores the hermit world of Anabosis; a planet where an expansive tech conglomerate conducts top secret research and development free from the burden of law and external oversight. Though not a scientist herself, what Emma discovers along the way could upend the status quo and pull this lonely world out of its isolation.
In this chapter, Emma and Hal travel to Anabosis’ frozen north to review Project Ibram. A grand social experiment, Ibram seeks to determine how much of a society’s development is driven by external conditions as well as the degree to which a culture will adapt and change when those conditions are altered. This raises many questions in Emma’s mind: what are the ethics of playing God? Is it wrong to bring a culture into existence only to keep it confined by the rules of an experiment? Would it be better for that society to have never existed at all?
