Anabosis: Gorgon

Anabosis is a science fiction novel set in the distant future of the Verdian Tales Universe. It focusses on the adventures and experiences of ethicist Emma Grant as she explores the hermit world of Anabosis; a planet where an expansive tech conglomerate conducts top secret research and development free from the burden of law and external oversight. Though not a scientist herself, what Emma discovers along the way could upend the status quo and pull this lonely world out of its isolation.

In this chapter, Emma travels off-world to an Anabosian Orbital Habitat in order to learn about the mysterious Gorgon Apparatus. The Gorgon is a machine that promises the impossible: the synthesis of matter itself. While seemingly farfetched, upon investigation Emma finds that the Anabosians have not only accomplished the feat, but witnesses the apparatus do its magic with her own eyes. Despite this fantastical feat, the researchers of Project Gorgon are far less excited than one might expect and reveal that there is a fly spoiling the ointment…
